Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) was originated in the early 1970’s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder who studied excellence in the field of therapy. They studied the works of prominent psychotherapists at the time, including Virginia Satir - the pioneer of family therapy, Milton Erickson - a medical doctor who made is name as a Hypnotherapist, and Fritz Perls the founder of Gestalt therapy. They wanted to know how these people got the amazing results they did with their clients. How did they bring about such positive change in people and empower them to continue living a happy life? Although well grounded in psychological theory and research, NLP is first and foremost about action rather than theory. It deals with the structure of subjective experience, how we organise what we see, hear and feel and how we edit and filter the outside world through our senses. NLP is an effective proven vehicle for accelerated human change and can help you achieve your goals so whether you want to run a mile or a marathon, whether you want to improve your self esteem or your personal relationships, get the career of your dreams or whether you just want to experience a more healthier happier you. Many people from all walks of life use NLP as a solution to fixing many of life's problems. As many of us lead stressful and pressured lifestyles it’s good to know that there are alternatives to relieve these problems without having to resort to drugs. In fact, hypnosis has been accepted as a valid therapeutic technique by the British Medical Association since 1955. Conventional medicine is more aware of the connection between body and mind and to achieve a sense of well-being, harmony must be maintained in both. You could think of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) as an owner's manual for the brain. It is the science of how the brain codes learning and experience. This coding affects all communication and behaviour. It affects how you learn and how you perceive the world around you. It is a key to reaching goals and achieving excellence. Neuro - Relating to the brain, it acknowledges the basic idea that all behaviour originates from our neurological processes of sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste and feeling. We experience the world through our five senses, making sense of the information and then acting on it. Linguistic - Refers to the language we use to order our thoughts and behaviour and to communicate with others. Programming - Describes the patterns and habits and how we choose to organise our ideas, our sequences of repetitive behaviour and actions, to produce results. NLP explores the relationship between how we think (Neuro), how we communicate (Linguistic) and our patterns of behaviour (Programming).
